Mistakes to avoid with the Facebook Timeline

We’ve enjoyed updating all of our facebook accounts to the new timeline, but there are some rules you should follow. Here’s a good article detailing what you can and can’t do with the new timeline for Facebook brand pages.

We also discussed the Facebook timeline for brand pages in this week’s Social Media Club meeting. You can read the full details here, but the following are some points we discussed:

With the cover photo, you must avoid:
Calls to action
Price and purchase information
Contact information
Using the cover photo as an advertising platform

These are all good points to keep in mind; and instead of cursing the changes, you should use them to your advantage. Here’s how Red Bull used the new timeline as part of a fun and engaging scavenger hunt.

Another perk of the new timeline for brand pages is private messaging. Within 12 hours of switching one of the pages that we manage to the new timeline, we were receiving messages from customers. This new feature is already paying off for one of our clients.

It’s easy to complain every time Facebook rolls out new changes, but it’s even more rewarding when you use the changes to improve your marketing strategy.
